Moscow breaks records in metro construction

In 2023, about 95% of Moscow citizens will live within the walking distance from metro stations. It will make the urban life comfortable even in suburbs. In the first half of 2018, the metro construction workers completed 8 stations and put them in operation.

Some of them are located at the Kakhovskaya line, which will be a part of the Big Circle line. The total length of the constructed lines is 16 km. The main transport infrastructure project in Moscow is the Third Interchange Ring (or the Big Circle Line), with the planned length of 70 km. The ring will be completed by 2022. It will comprise 31 stations.

By the end of 2023, the Moscow metro will have 41 more stations. The total length of the line will be 99 km longer.

The metro development programme includes the construction of 24 new stations and 50 km of rails until the end of 2018. Unfortunately, the pace of construction usual for the Moscow metro system recently is absolutely unapproachable for other Russian cities. Since 2000, only 11 stations were opened in St Petersburg, the second largest city in the country with the population more than 5,5 million people.
