The longest road tunnel was built in Southeast Asia
In central Vietnam at the beginning of January 2021 opened road tunnel Hai Van Road 2. Construction work began in 2016. The project worth $ 367 million was realized in the course of 4 years. The 6.2 km long tunnel connects Thua Thien Hue province with Da Nang, the fifth most populous city in Vietnam and the country's unofficial tourist capital.

The two-lane tunnel, which is 6.2 metres long and 7 metres wide, is just 30 metres from the tunnel of the same name opened in 2005. Along with High Van Road 1, it is one of the largest road tunnels in Southeast Asia. It is expected that its opening will reduce the transport load on the existing tunnel.
Both facilities are located on National Highway 1A and are part of the Hai Wang Pass, which rises 500 metres above sea level and is a natural boundary between Tua Thien-Hue province and Danang City. The passage was a mountainous method of drilling. Explosives were allowed to be used only twice a day at a set time interval, so as not to disrupt traffic on the High Van Road Tunnel 1.
