Milan resumes the construction of the line 4
The contractors resumed the construction work for the Line M4 of the Milan metro system. The construction was stopped on March 21, 2020, by a decree of the Administration of Lombardy region. Line M4 will connect the historical center of the city with the Airport.
Salini Impregilo, the compnay involved in the civil construction, and Astaldi, the international construction group, are implementing the contract. The exceptional security measures are undertaken at the construction site as an emergency response to prevent COVID-19 spread. The construction is relaunched at all three active sections.
Line M4 is a new automatic line. It was planned to be opened in 2015, but due to the lack of funding, the completion of the construction is expected in 2022.
The total length of the line will be 15 km. It will comprise 21 stations. The expected passenger traffic is 87 million per year. The total project cost is estimated at €1.7 billion.
