Construction of the 4th metro line begins in Cairo
The National Tunneling Authority (NAT) in Cairo has confirmed the start of construction of the first phase of Line 4 of the Egyptian capital.
The Cairo Metro Line 4 is a mass-speed transport system that is expected to reduce congestion on local highways. The site under construction is 19 km long and is planned to open 16 stations. The route will connect the center of Greater Cairo with the pyramid area in Giza.
The first tender lot envisages the construction of the western section of Line 4. Currently, NAT is in talks with a consortium comprising the Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation and the Egyptian Orascom, which is planned to involve carrying out work on the second lot – the construction of the eastern direction of the new line.
