No decision for the station Teatralnaya’s exits in St Petersburg!
As previously reported by Undergroundexpert, the Teatralnaya station in St Petersburg is currently under construction but has no exits to the surface due to the absence of the City Administration’s final decision regarding the location. In 2019, the station will be commissioned. Although, as it seems, the situation occurred in the case of the station Admiralteyskaya will be repeated, when the trains passed by the station for 14 years as there was no exit.

Last week the Head of the Committee for the Transportation Development of St Petersburg Sergei Kharlashkin confirmed that the decision on location of the exits was not developed. Two places are considered to be the future exits: the first is planned at the crossroad located several meters from the historical stage of the famous Mariinsky theatre and the second is planned two crossroads farther, closer to the Concert hall of the Mariinsky theatre.
The designers and construction workers – ОАО NIPII Lenmetrogiprotrans and OAO Metrostroy – are more inclined to place it farther from the theatre, while St Petersburg Metro SUE and the City more like the first location. According to Mr. Kharlashkin the final decision will be made by the City Government. Upon the information of St Petersburg based online media Fontanka, he did not specify the date.

Many issues affect the period of decision consideration: a lot of buildings in vicinity of the location are landmarks, these historic buildings require a lot of additional papers to be approved; while the second location has the demolition of the building as a part of the plan, and it means a lot of negotiations with the proprietors.
At present, the construction site near the Mariinsky theatre is used for the construction of the technical tunnels, its location and size affects the traffic. Daily, up to 7 events take place at the complex of the Mariinsky theatre, attracting a lot of visitors. Also the locals have been waiting for decades for the metro station within easy reach. The construction of the Teatralnaya station is highly anticipated.
