Progress at the third metro line in Mumbai
Mumbai, the capital city of the Indian state Maharashtra, has a population of 12.5 million people. The city has just got its third metro line new tunnel. The length of the tunnel is 3.82 km, its diameter is 6 m.

According to the $ 373.7 million worth contract, the section eventually will include the 4.72 km long tunnel, 4 underground stations, and two parallel tunnels 3.1 km long.
The Line 3 route runs under the historical part of the city. Mumbai is situated on the sea coast, and the geological conditions are difficult. The underground work takes place at the depth from 15 to 25 m. The new line will connect the southern and the northern parts of the city and will run through the major commercial center, the city of Bandra.
The construction of the tunnel is carried by the Russian company АО Mosmetrostroy together with the private-public company Hindustan Construction Company (MMS-HCC) registered in Mumbai. The metro of Mumbai now has only one operating line, the lines 2, 3 and 4 are under construction.
