Rostov will get premetro by 2030
The construction of two lines of monorail road is planned for Rostov-on-Don, the lines will be connected through the shallow metro line. According to preliminary estimates, the total cost of the project is 100 billion rubles (127 million Euro). The coast of 1 km of the rail line is about 3.5 billion rubles (44.5 million Euro).
At first, the concept of “traditional” underground metro system was under discussion, but later the authorities decided it was not advisable from the point of economic feasibility. The construction cost of 1 km of deep underground metro is about 7 billion rubles. The key factor for the decision making was the fact, that any metro system becomes cost efficient upon reaching 50,000 passengers traffic per hour. These numbers are unreachable for Rostov.
The federal funding was not available also; the local authorities should implement the project basing on their regional financial resources. The planned date of the start of operation is 2030.
